Orica acquires Strata Control Systems in Australia
30 January 2008
Orica has entered into an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of Strata Control Systems (SCS). SCS is a leading provider of underground metal support systems to the mining and tunnelling markets in Australia. SCS has three plants in Australia, including two in Sydney and one in Perth.
The acquisition complements the recent Excel acquisition and further strengthens the Minova business platform. The addition of SCS to the business portfolio allows Orica to offer its customers combined metal and chemical strata support in Australia and there will be opportunities to expand the business throughout Australasia via the Minova and Orica Mining Services networks.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2008. An announcement about the future structure of the combined business will be made in due course.
