Minova and Orica Mining Services help save lives

15 April 2009

Did you know that Minova Australia (Minova) and Orica Mining Services (OMS) joined forces recently and raised over $5000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service?

At the 2009 Mining and Engineering Exposition in New South Wales, Minova and OMS decided to forgo their traditional product display exhibit in favour of holding a charity fundraising sausage sizzle in support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is very dear to the hearts of our customers as in the event of emergency it can be the difference between life and death for miners.  The service is similarly dear to both Minova and OMS employees.  In late 2007 a senior Minova employee was seriously injured in a surfing accident in Newcastle which resulted in him becoming a permanent paraplegic.  It was the Westpac Rescue Helicopter that rushed him to hospital, ultimately saving his life.

What did it take to raise over $5000 over three days?  It took the exceptional cooking skills of Minova and OMS employees, 120 kilograms of sausages, 110 loaves of bread, six kilograms of margarine, goodness knows how many onion rings and the appetites of many of our customers.

Thank you to all who assisted Minova and OMS in their quest.
